Tom was engaged as landscape architect for this project, producing a master plan focused on bikeway and foot trail improvements for a five mile corridor in this historic Boston suburb. A two mile commuter bikeway section was routed to connect the existing Minuteman Bike Trail with Battle Road National Historic Park. The project required significant public outreach and coordination with Boston’s major utilities given the site’s proximity to a power line easement.

Tom prepared conceptual-level design alternatives for bikeway alignment, with an emphasis on minimizing wetland impacts through expansive low lying areas. He also worked with the municipality to identify funding sources for construction phase.

Project Highlights

  • Created significant links to adjacent neighborhoods, schools, business areas, and a military reservation
  • Design includes over one half mile of innovative bicycle-friendly boardwalks through sensitive wetland zone, improving existing erosion and compaction in degraded areas
