Coastal Residence
South Kingstown, RI

Working in a spectacular location overlooking the water, Tom provided the vision and landscape plan to allow the owner to replace a 1970s cottage with a modern, energy efficient coastal home.  Rigorous state coastal zone and local regulations required a low-input, drought-tolerant landscape approach favoring native plantings and ecosystems.

Tom’s plan for the property has balanced the ecosystem needs with the client’s functional needs for kayak launching, water access and contained lawn gathering space.  Design work also addressed coastal bank invasive species management to enhance both ecosystem functions and water views.

Work included softening the appearance of required raised waste water management system with tall native grasses.

Project is under construction.
