wildscaping to new levels

Wildscaping

Wildscaping has become very popular.  This property takes wildscaping to new levels, quite literally.  This project transitioned nearly one acre of lawn to diverse native meadow and woodland edge habitats, spanning from a wet lowland corner to a very dry upland.  From the street edge to the rear of the property, a seasonal mosaic of sequential bloom, color, and texture turned a typical suburban lot into a pollinator paradise.  The landscape redesign occurred simultaneously with a total rebuild of the house to make it a zero-net-energy building.

The Story Behind the Meadow:

wildscaping the story

We were brought into the project at a sensitive time.  A family member suffered from a terminal illness.  Time was short.  But there was strong hope to see this rich new landscape develop while the whole family could enjoy it!  With this solemn mission in mind, we designed and installed much of this large meadow in about one year.  Everyone could marvel at how quickly the meadow established itself during its first full growing season.  Birds, butterflies, and smiles abounded.

The stricken family member was a pillar of the community, and she insisted that the meadow serve the public.  Her legacy is not only in the meadow itself but also in the many universally accessible paths, signs, and sitting areas that beckon neighbors and passersby to enjoy this beautiful meadow as well.  Her spirit lives on in this vibrantly alive landscape!
