From 2015-2018, in collaboration with Regenerative Design Group, Wellnesscapes Design served as Landscape Architect for Fowler Clark Epstein Farm, a historic farm in Mattapan, a neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts. We transformed a neglected former farmstead corner lot in Mattapan into a beautiful, ecologically resilient, historically sensitive, accessible, and agriculturally productive landscape. This revived commercial community farm is now the pride of the neighborhood: A hub of activity and education that brings fresh organic produce to an under served food desert section of Boston.
We are excited to announce that the project just won the BSLA (Boston Society of Landscape Architects) Merit Award and separate Honorable Mention from EDRA (Environmental Design Research Association). The project’s Design Team, with complex site work led by RDG, was impressive including: Trustees for Public Land, Urban Farming Institute of Boston, North Bennet Street School, Historic Boston Inc. – HBI, Perkins & Will Architects and Nitsch Engineering. Site construction was completed by Hurst Landscape and Site Services Inc. of Mattapan. M.J. Mawn, Inc. conducted building restoration work on historic farmhouse and barn.
Congrats to everyone on this truly exciting and uplifting community project!
